I don&#8217;t think I could hold it for months like that but it&#8217;s probably fine for a week at which point I&#8217;d just pour any unused stripper back into the original jug.<br \/><br \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2><strong>Step #2 Powerwash the stripper off.<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-153 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/deck-refinishing-power-washing-colorado-springs.jpg\" alt=\"deck refinishing power washing colorado springs\" width=\"980\" height=\"489\" srcset=\"https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/deck-refinishing-power-washing-colorado-springs.jpg 980w, https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/deck-refinishing-power-washing-colorado-springs-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/deck-refinishing-power-washing-colorado-springs-768x383.jpg 768w, https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/deck-refinishing-power-washing-colorado-springs-700x350.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>Rent a power washer, a proper high pressure gas powered unit. Use a flat fan spray tip. Practice away from the wood first and when you start start out of the way because technique is important. The fan should hit the wood hard enough to wash all the stripper and old stain off but not so hard it tears out the grain.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2><strong>Step #3 Apply wood brightener.<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-396\" src=\"https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/deck-brightener-colorado-springs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"667\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/deck-brightener-colorado-springs.jpg 667w, https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/deck-brightener-colorado-springs-300x174.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 667px) 100vw, 667px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>The caustic in the stripper destroys the lignin in the wood lifting the cellulose and darkening the wood additionally time, tannin, mildews etc stain. Apply this with a sprayer while the deck is still wet after washing.<\/p>\r\n<h2><strong>Step #4 Let the deck dry thoroughly.<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-242 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/composite-deck-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/composite-deck-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/composite-deck-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/composite-deck-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/composite-deck.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>It may take a couple days but all the way dry makes the next step go easier.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2><strong>Step #5 Sand the Deck.<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-397\" src=\"https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/sanding-deck-.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"406\" srcset=\"https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/sanding-deck-.jpg 650w, https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/sanding-deck--300x187.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>The wood is fuzzy now because the cellulose fibers are standing up where the lignin has been removed or where it was physically moved by the spray. Use an upright random orbit sander like those used on wood floors for the deck.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2><strong>Step #6 Remove the sawdust.<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-398\" src=\"https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/broom-cleaning-deck.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"966\" height=\"644\" srcset=\"https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/broom-cleaning-deck.jpeg 966w, https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/broom-cleaning-deck-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/broom-cleaning-deck-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/broom-cleaning-deck-90x60.jpeg 90w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 966px) 100vw, 966px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>Blow or sweep all the sawdust off of the deck so it does not interfere with the next step.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2><strong>Step #7 Stain the deck.<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-48\" src=\"https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Color-Stain.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"661\" height=\"439\" srcset=\"https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Color-Stain.jpg 661w, https:\/\/olearyandsons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Color-Stain-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 661px) 100vw, 661px\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>It sounds like you want to enjoy the beauty of your wood and I feel the same, so I recommend a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabotstain.com\/products\/product\/Semi-Transparent-Siding-and-Fence.html\">semi-transparent oil based Cabot stain<\/a>.
